Relaxation and a certain amount of detoxification would be the easiest answers to this question.

The heat of a sauna and steam room also leave you with healthier looking skin, and can help to open and clear your airways, as well as your pores. We've also heard that taking a sauna or steam room bath after exercising helps to alleviate the subsequent muscular soreness many people experience after a strenuous work out.

I'm not entirely sure what the specific effect of entering a sauna before a work out would be, except that Greed_2.0 has a good point. You sweat anyway, when you exercise, so sitting in a sauna before OR after a work out means you need to be sure to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Though I don't know from personal experience, I've heard that sitting in a sauna after your work out helps to loosen up muscles tightened during exercise, and might help to prevent soreness the next day.

I'd say, try them both, and decide which one feels better for you! :)

Zak is right, though I wouldn't say a dry sauna is "lame".

In a wet sauna water is sprinkled on hot sauna rocks, which creates steam. Doing this makes the sauna feel hotter, since the steam condenses on your skin.

In a dry sauna the water is omitted. It is the less intense version of the wet sauna.

The benefits of the dry and wet sauna are the same, it's simply a matter of preference.

Saunas Feedback: If you give it away, whoever takes it should pay to remove it. Besides craigslist, yahoo has a group called Freecycle. I don't know about cutting it up though......depends on what it's made of.

Saunas Feedback: I'll assume it's not built in and is made of fiberglass. in that case they are not that heavy. you have to remove the decking around it.

Saunas Feedback: If your gonna go destrucktoe on this a chop saw would be faster, but if you value your lungs and eyes you'll have a filtered mask and goggles cause fiberglass shavings and dust ain't healthy for you in a very bad way . I mean ain't ya' gonna have ta take the deck apart to fix the hole from the tub anyway? The thing is thick and heavy and it's not gonna be easy, you can do it ,but take plenty of safety precautions cause you know your friends would never let you live down " the time you almost killed yourself taking the tub apart !
